This is a blog post about cookie butter, GoNuts donuts, and the awesomeness that ensues when you put them together.

It’s been more than a month since photos of this Trader Joe’s Speculous Cookie Butter Spread flooded my Instagram feed, and the trend shows no signs of slowing down.

Now i haven’t really had a literal taste of Christmas, but the idea sounds pretty rad, so it’s no wonder shelves of exclusive retailers have fast gone dry since the public caught wind of this spectacle of a condiment.

I myself thought of getting a jar, just because the thought of peanut butter that doesn’t taste like peanut butter holds so much promise and intrigue, but after finding out that online sellers have reservations on hold until June I sort of lost hope in it.

So it was just my luck to have been sent this box of gorgeous Cookie Butter Donuts by GoNuts Donuts. It was pretty much everything I wanted at the moment: GoNuts Donuts with their sugary sweet glaze, and a hefty slathering of the fabled cookie butter spread I’ve been wanting to try for so long.

This is how I kept the entire DR staff from devouring my cookie butter donuts.

Every bite is just sheer food porn. Sugary glaze + overwhelmingly gooey cookie butter + a kick pf gingerbread-y flavor = ahdhfjdjdgdhfk. I’m afraid my words fail to give it justice. Thank you cookie butter donuts, if it weren’t for you guys I wouldn’t have survived that awfully busy shift. Those stolen seconds of running to the pantry to grab a bite saved my life.

Workmates liked it too. Too bad they had to share a piece cause I practically ate it all. Couldn’t help myself, they were THAT good.

Since trying these crazy good cookie butter donuts My tastebuds have been haunted by their gooey sweet wonder. I must have another piece soon.

There comes a time when you begin to outgrow your roots, even in the slightest of ways. This isn’t anything drastic, it’s just that I’m finally learning that there is more to life than the four corners of Makati.

There’s no denying that the northern region has witnessed the rise of some off-beat and fresh milk tea/dining nooks (but more importantly, milk tea nooks), giving San Juan kids more options on where to while away their time and spend their weekly allowance other than the usual fast food and coffee joint.

One such milk tea installation is this quirky little cubbyhole in the middle of.. heck I don’t know where the hell this is, but it’s a really cute place. TeaTap Cafe might seem like your usual run-of-the-mill milk tea joint, milking the milk tea trend for all its worth, but it actually has much more in store than milk-infused tea. TeaTap Cafe offers, along with their expansive tea selection, a range of filling and interesting East Asian snacks and meals.

With sweet and crunchy chicken that are a close contender to BonChon’s, mushroom cream pasta that’s actually generous on the mushroom front, and a Bulgogi Rice Burger that tastes of nothing but Korean goodness, TeaTap cafe has finally granted milk tea an array of sensible dining partners. I’m all for practicality, so why grab my tea and go when I can lounge around in a cutesy place and enjoy a bite or two while I’m at it?

Their teas are pretty darn good too. They serve a selection of… practically everything, from all-time favorite Milk Tea and Cheese Mousse varieties to healthy and refreshing options like their Matcha Milk and Fruit Teas. For the more adventurous set, their Yakult and Herbal Grass Jelly series are worth a try as well.

And as if this food review couldn’t get any longer, I’d just have to add how adorably kooky I think TeaTap Cafe’s packaging and interiors are. Everything from the wall art, to the cup doodles and interiors were created by the store’s owner. I had to set the record straight though, it turns out he isn’t actually that fond of kittens, although they do make an impressionable character for a milk tea label.

These are by far the most youthful (not to mention colorful) purses I’ve seen from the massive label, a far cry from their brown monogrammed Speedies. I really don’t know how watching this would do me any good now, I am tired and sleepy and broke as a joke.

Last week I finally got to drop by a particular place I’ve been meaning to try out for the longest time. Paris Delice is a little unassuming cafe along Makati Ave., an odd fit to the mess of pubs and bars that litter the area.

i’m a crummy blogger, and I’ve never taken to venue shots, so I’ll just show you, in the most basic Instagram snappies, what I had on my plate that day.

French, Pinoy, and Tagaytay Salads. I looove the French salad with generous slivers of cheese and prosciutto. Best paired with Paris Delice’s Balsamic vinegar dressing.

I was served Bolognaise pasta, but I couldn’t stop stealing fork-fulls of my boyfriend’s Arugula - Chevre pasta. Can’t get enough of the fresh taste and the punchy cottage cheese flavor.

All in all, what I got was an absolutely filling and rustic French meal. Paris Delice’s menu selections are reminiscent of the French countryside (fresh produce, cured meats, etc.), and it definitely delivers on the Parisian cafe vibe.

The Italian sandwich, made with that perfectly crusty and chewy baguette.

French Onion and Cream of Tomato soup to kickstart our appetites.

Paris Delice’s best-selling sandwich, the Lillois. Chunky chicken, Irish bacon, fresh greens and tomatoes. Absolutely filling!

Paris Delice offers a selection of the most basic dishes: salads, sandwiches, and pastries, and takes it up a notch with fresh ingredients bursting with flavor. The dough for the Baguettes they produce are imported directly from France, so you’re practically getting authentic French baguettes here. You get French cafe food in its simplest, most basic form, fuss-free and devoid of adornments and overwhelming flavors, which is quite awesome.

I am in carb heaven. Paris Delice’s pastry platter, featuring their Pain Au Raisin, awesome Croissant, Pain Au Chocolat, Triange Aux Amandes (almond filling - unconventionally good, carb lover bias though), and Chausson Aux Pommes.

I am still drooling over their croissants (which is saying something considering I had them a week ago.) They were buttery and soft, with a crust that flaked off perrrrfectly with every bite OMG.

I’m not even gonna talk about the macaroons, once you get me going this entire blog post might be all about the macaroons.

I love how the place is so spot-on with the corner cafe peg. You’ll notice that the place is frequented by people around the area, regulars who come in to have their daily coffee or croissant or whatever. I just might turn this place into a cozy nook of my own. Croissant actually sounds good right about now…

La Union, we might have gotten off with a wrong start, what with you destroying my phone and turning me into my darkest skin tone yet, but I’m willing to put these in the past and start things anew. I’m even starting to appreciate my niggerized complexion more. We stayed in a cozy common hut with all kinds of art on the walls, abolished showers altogether, and gone broke in two days. It was an incredibly easy kind of life. Even I can’t deny the fact that weekend afternoons are meant to be spent on sublime coastal sunsets, riding a few long and lucky waves, a shit ton of pancit canton and fried egg, and allowing the sun to just fry your skin a little more.

It is quite apparent that this year was ALL about the good food. This year I’ve gotten reacquainted with the joys of good food, had my patience and my faith tested to its absolute limit, wrecked my phone and realized what a significant part of my life it is (serious stuff here, I’m emotionally attached to my photos, eBooks, and playlists) made new friends, reconciled with old ones, and braved so many challenges, personally and professionally. There were days where I’d cry before and after work, days where I didn’t want to go back at all, and days where I felt extremely honored to be able to do what I do. Some days might have been worse than others, but I’ve learned that all days come to an end as well. I’m actually in a proverbial state of limbo now, because I am quite aware that despite the dawn of a new year, I’ll still be facing the same personal issues tomorrow, still going back to work the following day, and still doing the stuff I’ve been doing in the past year. I need to know that it is possible to part with the experiences, pains and burden of 2012. Clean slates are possible. New beginnings are possible.

This can also be called “Collage of things I’ll never have, unless I won the lottery” cause while Christmas may be over, my long list of prospective acquisitions run long all year ‘round. This was just my means of trying to make sense of the shoe lust in my mind, which I cannot contain, at all. I had to add some stuff in there that weren’t actually shoes, just to make the wishlist more socially acceptable. Featuring some Balenciaga, A. Wang, Valentino, Celine, Aussie Senso, Acne, and some Cartier and Rollie bling, aaaand some Tanya Ling art! Because I’ve always admired her Idea Drawings, and I can only dream of having one. Merry Christmas bitches! Time to get back to the business of spending time with loved ones, going to church, and enjoying the holidays.

I would be lying if I said that the main reason I took the Ungava gin launch assignment wasn’t to get a chance to check out the newest bar at The Fort, the ultra cool (literally) Imperial Ice Bar. It proved to be a hitting-two-birds-with-one-stone kinda thing, as I discovered for myself the delights of some unconventionally colored gin and got to experience freezing my ass off in a -5 degree Celsius ice bar. Ungava gin was robust and had a distinctly subtle but pronounced aroma and went down quite nicely and had me rattling along like some liquor connoisseur. These days (who am I kidding, I do this all the time) my outfit choices centrally revolve around stuff I’ve already worn within the week, and then pairing them with stuff I can wear with other stuff I’ve already worn within the week. This is primarily out of practicality, secondary to sharpening my resourcefulness skills. This was shot at a dank and poorly-lit parking lot, featuring my thrifted silk button-down and slutty shorts from Forever 21.

I recently joined a few other WheninManila.com writers on a campaign with Project Headshot Clinic in celebration of World AIDS day. The campaign aims to increase awareness of the ever so rapidly spreading disease, as well as to build compassion to the individuals and families affected by it. Our photos were shot by renowned photographer Niccolo Cosme a month ago, and I’m quite honored to be part of such an empowering project.

Okay, so I guess there’s little that can be done to my face, but for now let us look beyond my retarded half-smile and focus on the message this campaign aims to get across, which is that an AIDS-free population is indeed possible! :D

I’m quite aware that my black shoe addiction is bordering on unhealthy, and these lovely Lulu Swing flats are taking it to a full-blown dependency. Those flirty twisty straps are the perfect mix of classy and chic and slutty subtlety, and pointy toes only build on that principle even more. For some reason I cannot turn down crushed velvet these days.

This is what I wore to eat an overflowing tub of frozen yogurt with my friend Marese at the launch of Golden Spoon’s Weightless Pricing service. The swishy black skirt was ideal for concealing my dangerously expanding, yogurt-filled girth. The shoes I got for 200 PHP from a (literal) sidewalk vendor in our neighborhood. How lovely metal toe-caps like these ended up with a sidewalk vendor, we’ll never know.
